The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change rewards the top three performing cities in each category with a cash prize, a trophy, and a certificate titled “National Clean Air City.”

This recognition is part of the National Mission for Clean Air and is awarded on September 7th each year, in celebration of the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies.

Assessment is done based on submission of self-assessment report along with supporting documents submitted by ULBs.

The reports and documents are further vetted by respective Air Quality Monitoring Committee (AQMC), chaired by Principal Secretary Environment and further examined and evaluated by CPCB for ranking, on the basis of assessment framework given in MoEF&CC guideline.
