Stalled Global Poverty Reduction:

Global poverty reduction has nearly stopped over the past five years.

The slow progress on poverty reduction in the past years reflects global conditions characterized by multiple and overlapping crises or a “polycrisis.” Polycrisis refers to multiple and interconnected crises occurring simultaneously, where their interactions amplify the overall impact.

Sub-Saharan Africa remains the most affected region, accounting for 67% of the world’s extreme poor.

India has reduced extreme poverty, from 431 million people in 1990 to 129 million in 2024.
