The National Health Accounts (NHA) data for 2021-22 reveals a positive trend, OOPE on healthcare is decreasing, largely due to increased government investment and an improved public healthcare framework.
The share of Government Health Expenditure (GHE) in the GDP increased from 1.13% in 2014-15 to 1.84% in 2021-22.
In terms of share in the General Government Expenditure (GGE), it has increased from 3.94% in 2014-15 to 6.12% in 2021-22.
Decline in Out-of-Pocket Expenditure (OOPE): Out-of-Pocket Expenditure (OOPE) has traditionally been a significant burden on Indian households.
However, between 2014-15 and 2021-22, the share of OOPE in the Total Health Expenditure (THE) declined from 62.6% to 39.4%.
