Current Affair 1:
History of Asian Games



The Asian Games are the oldest and most prestigious event on the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) calendar, dating back to the inaugural edition in 1951.

Like the Olympic Games, they are held every four years.

The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF) from the first Games until the 1978 Games.

Since the 1982 Games, they have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), after the breakup of the Asian Games Federation.

The Games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.

The first edition of the Asian Games was held in New Delhi in March 1951.

The Games were officially opened by Indian President Rajendra Prasad at the Dhyan Chand National Stadium.

The most recent games was held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. The next games are scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD)



World Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Day is observed on 7th September each year to raise awareness about Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness due to the alterations of a protein called dystrophin that helps keep muscle cells intact.

A rare degenerative illness called Duchenne muscular dystrophy makes muscles weaker over time until it affects the entire body. One in five thousand boys are born with the condition. It results from an X-chromosome mutation. First, walking becomes challenging, then other motor functions follow, and finally, breathing and heart function are affected because the heart is also a muscle.

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India is the nodal body to look after all the development agenda of Persons with Disabilities of the country.
