Current Affair 1:
The Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2023

It is an annual benchmarking report published by the prestigious chain of business schools, INSEAD.

The index uses two sub-indices: input and output. The Global Talent Competitiveness Index (GTCI), which is calculated as the simple arithmetic average of the scores of each of the four Input pillars and two Output pillars outlined BELOW.

The input measures regulatory and business environments, as well as steps being taken to foster talent and retain it. The output side evaluates the quality of talent.

Ranking:

India's talent competitiveness ranking fell from 83rd place out of 103 countries in 2013 to 103rd place out of 134 countries in 2023.

The top positions in the ranking of the GTCI scores continue to be dominated by developed, high-income countries (see Table 1), and there is a high correlation between GDP per capita and GTCI scores (see Figure 2).

China remains the leading member of the group of BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). It is followed by the Russian Federation, which is currently ranked 52nd.

Current Affair 2:
One Station, One Product

The successful launching of a famous traditional craft promotional scheme that is called (ODOP) 'One District, One Product' scheme, a new and high-tech scheme has been launched by the Ministry of Railway in 2022.

This scheme was discussed in the union budget 2022. Now it has been introduced with a centralized focus on promotion and digital supply chain of local and sustainable handmade craft products or local agricultural farm products using the Railways station for sailing and making each railway station a promotional hub and showcase destination for Indian Railways' concept of 'One Station One Product' aims to encourage indigenous and specialized products and crafts of the nation by providing display and sale outlets at railway stations across the country(Deccan herald 2022).

The pilot of the scheme was started on 25.03.2022 and as on 01.05.2023, 728 stations are covered with 785 OSOP outlets in 21 States and 3 Union Territories across the country.

These OSOP stalls are designed through National Design Institute, Ahmedabad for uniformity. Cumulative Direct Beneficiaries from March 2022 till 01.05.2023 is 25,109.

CONCLUSIONS

Railway is one of the important pillars of the economy as also emphasised by our Prime Minister. It is one of the pillars of PRADHANMANTRI GATI SHAKTI YOJANA. With the emphasis on ‘One Station, One Product’ Railways will develop new products and efficient logistics services for small farmers and Small and Medium Enterprises, thus a major boost to the MSME’S sector, who are suffering after the setback of covid19 pandemic and lockdown.

Current Affair 3:
National Health Claim Exchange (NHCX)

NHCX is a Digital Public Good created by National Health Authority, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India to enable standardized and faster claims processing for better patient experience with reduced operations costs

The National Health Claims Exchange works similarly to the internet and email exchange networks in that it enables the transfer of data packets from one point to another (destination).

Just as routing switches or email gateways ensure that messages are sent and received with the appropriate levels of consistency, security, privacy, and durability.

National Health Claims Exchange serves as a protocol for exchanging claims-related information among various actors, including payers, providers, beneficiaries, regulators, and observers.

Current Affair 4:
Picocystis Salinarum

News:

Recently, a young researcher has divulged the secret of how the Picocystis Salinarum survives the harshest of conditions by resorting to physiological adaptation to highly saline-alkaline/hyperosmotic conditions.

About Picocystis Salinarum:

  1. It is a globally widespread picoplanktonic green algae of saline lakes.
  2. It is one of the smallest green algae.
  3. It is found in hypersaline soda lake Sambhar, Rajasthan, to survive extreme environments. Though the algae had been widely found in saline-soda lakes around the world, it was spotted for the first time in India only in the Sambhar Lake.
  4. The unique organism apparently enhances photosynthesis and ATP synthesis along with chaperone proteins as key response to high salinity-alkalinity.
  5. Enhanced photosynthetic activity exhibited by P. salinarum in highly saline-alkaline condition is noteworthy as photosynthesis is suppressed under hyperosmotic conditions in most photosynthetic organisms.
