National Essential Diagnostics List
News:
The World Health Organisation (WHO) released the first edition of essential diagnostics list (EDL) in May 2018. Even though WHO’s EDL acts as a reference point for development of national EDL, India’s diagnostics list has been customized and prepared as per landscape of India’s health care priorities.
The Indian Council of Medical Research released the first National Essential Diagnostics List (NEDL) in 2019 to make the availability of diagnostics an essential component of the health care system.
India is the first country to release the NEDL. The list enumerates minimum number of tests that should be available at various levels of healthcare facilities, including – village level, Sub Health Centre/Heath & Wellness Centres (HWCs), Primary Health Centres (PHC)/HWCs, Community Health Centres (CHC), Sub-District Hospital (SDH), and District Hospital (DH).
India is considering to revisit current National Essential Diagnostics List.
The stakeholders should consider the following criteria before proposing any additional tests to the existing list:

What is the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF)?

The New Telecom Policy of 1999 had ‘Universal Service’ as one of its main objectives. The idea was to strike a balance between the provision of Universal Service to all uncovered areas, including the rural areas, and the provision of high-level services capable of meeting the needs of the country’s economy. The Indian Telegraph (Amendment) Act, 2003 gave statutory status to USOF.
The Universal Service Obligation (USO) Fund is headed by the Administrator, USO Fund who is appointed by the Central Government, for the administration of the fund.
It is an attached office of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications.
The implementation of the USOF schemes is carried out through the Service Providers after entering specific contracts. Some of the schemes funded under USOF are:

About Khelo India programme
News: Recently Prime Minister inaugurated the Khelo India Youth Games.
The Khelo India programme has been introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grass-root level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.
It is a Government of India programme launched in 2017-18 under the tenure Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The following verticals are implemented by Sports Authority of India - State Level Khelo India Centres, Annual Sports Competitions, Talent Search and Development, Sports for Women, Support to National/Regional/State Sports Academies, Promotion of Sports among persons with disabilities, Promotion of rural and indigenous/tribal games, Physical Fitness of School going Children.
In addition, the following verticals are implemented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports - Play Field Development, Utilization and Creation/ Upgradation of Sports Infrastructure and Sports for Peace and Development.
The Community Coaching Development vertical is implemented by Lakshmi Bai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE).
Talented players identified in priority sports disciplines at various levels by the High-Powered Committee will be provided annual financial assistance of INR 5 lakh per annum for 8 years.

Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) award
News:
The Government of India confers the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) award to children for their exceptional achievements.
The awards are conferred upon children in the age group 5 – 18 years, who deserve national recognition for their excellence in six categories, viz. Art & Culture, Bravery, Innovation, Scholastic, Social Service, and Sports.
Each awardee of PMRBP is given a medal, cash prize of Rs. One Lakh, a Certificate and a Citation.
From the year 2022 onwards, Bal Kalyan Puraskar (both Individual and Institution) has been closed and Bal Shakti Puraskar has been subsumed under Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar.
The selection of awardees was made by a Selection Committee under the chairpersonship of the Union Minister for Women and Child Development.
