International Medical Device Regulators Forum (IMDRF)

News:
India has become an affiliate member of the International Medical Device Regulators Forum (IMDRF), which will open doors to invaluable opportunities for reliance and collaboration with regulatory authorities worldwide.
What it does?
IMDRF is a voluntary group of medical device regulators from around the world who have come together to build on the strong foundational work of the Global Harmonization Task Force on Medical Devices (GHTF) and aims to accelerate international medical device regulatory harmonization and convergence.
The IMDRF, which was established in 2011, is a group of global medical device regulators.
Its members include national regulatory authorities of the U.S., Australia, Canada, the European Union, Japan, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Russia, China, South Korea, Singapore and the World Health Organization (WHO).
India has recently become an affiliate member. What does it mean?
Regulatory Authorities who would like to engage with IMDRF, but do not wish to become or are not Official Observers, may apply to become Affiliate Members.
As an Affiliate Member, the regulatory authority will participate in IMDRF by attending “open” meetings and using IMDRF documents in part or in whole as the basis for their own regulatory framework. Affiliate Members may also participate in open Working Groups.
This membership will also enable Indian medical device manufacturers to meet the regulatory requirements of IMDRF member countries, thereby strengthening “Brand India” in the global market.
