About ISA:
The ISA is a global intergovernmental organization dedicated to advancing solar power adoption for a carbon-neutral future.
The ISA is a collaborative initiative between India and France aimed at uniting efforts to combat climate change by implementing solar energy solutions. It was conceptualized on the side lines of COP21 in Paris in 2015.
The International Solar Alliance (ISA) Framework Agreement came into force on December 6, 2017. This happened after 15 countries ratified the agreement, which was the minimum required for the agreement to become operational.
The ISA aims to promote solar energy deployment globally, especially in solar-rich countries situated between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, though membership is open to all countries.
Following a 2020 amendment to its Framework Agreement, all UN member states are now eligible to join the Alliance.
Currently, 100+ countries are signatories, with 90+ countries having ratified to become full members.
About ISA Assembly.
The Assembly of the ISA is the apex decision-making body which comprises of representatives from each Member Country.
The Assembly convenes annually wherein the ISA Member Country representatives exercise their votes to make all necessary decisions regarding the said matters, in the presence of non-voting participants including observers, prospective member nations, partner organizations and special invitees.
The first Assembly of the ISA was held from 2nd to 5th October 2018 in Greater Noida, National Capital Region, India. Currently, seventh Assembly is taking place.
